Howdy Hoopesters! I hope you've enjoyed your sneak peek of the EP and are ready to get your country groove on in two months with these songs! Speaking of songs, I thought that now would be the perfect time to introduce you to the two ladies that turned my fragments of melodies and lyrics into the living, breathing stories of "Not Yet", "Life of the Party," and "Ghosts of the Greats."
I first sat down with Lynn Wilbanks and Kirsti Manna in a SESAC writer's room in downtown Nashville last March. Lynn and I had met a few weeks prior at the CMA Triple Play Awards and bonded over our alma mater. (True Blue MTSU forever, baby!) We set up a writing appointment for the two of us on March 23 and like most co-writes in Nashville, it didn't end up being just Lynn and I. And goodness knows I am grateful for it! Kirsti, Lynn, and I began that morning scratching our heads about what to write and ended the afternoon with a song that brought tears to all of our eyes -- "Ghosts of the Greats."
In the past year, these women have inspired, encouraged, and challenged me as a writer in ways
I cannot thank them enough for. So without further ado, meet Kirsti and Lynn!
Hit songwriter, publisher, voice actor, SongwriterGirl Camp founder. There is nothing that Kirsti can't do! Did I mention that she's spent 6 weeks at #1 on Billboard with her smash hit "Austin," famously performed by my former coach, Blake Shelton?
This woman is not only an absolute powerhouse as a writer and publisher at Kirsti Mannasongs but as a mentor at SongwriterGirl Camp, a one day camp started in 2008 that provides young female songwriters with creative empowerment and a guide to navigating the world of songwriting and publishing.
Born and raised in Nashville, Lynn is an award-winning writer and publisher for Tagged Tree Music/SESAC whose songs have been heard across the globe.
As a member of the music business community, Lynn has served as a Platinum Ambassador for the city of Nashville as well as a member of the NSAI (National Songwriters Association International) GAP Board, CMA (Country Music Association), AIMP (Association of Independent Music Publishers), and numerous other organizations.
Her love for country music and its traditions made her the perfect person to serve as Creative Designer and Developer for Phase I and II of the critically acclaimed This is My America, a 64-track compilation of original songs and stories from artists such as Dolly Parton, the Nashville Symphony, Mark O’Connor, Charley Pride, Billy Dean, and The Fisk Jubilee Singers that tell the historical journey of the United States.
Without the songs and stories that Kirsti and Lynn helped me create, this EP would have been put on the back burner. If Lynn or Kirsti is reading this, know that I love you more than there are words to say. Thank you for helping me find my true voice.
Until next time!
